Program notes

As the opera world marks the 100-year anniversary of the passing of verismo master Giacomo Puccini, the Würth Philharmoniker invites two of the day's most exquisite Puccini interpreters to put on a centenary-worthy show: Polish tenor Piotr Beczała and American-Canadian soprano Sondra Radvanovsky! With accomplished Italian conductor Claudio Vandelli leading the festivities, the two superstar singers return to repertoire that has won them worldwide acclaim, including opera arias by Puccini and his contemporaries Antonín Dvořák and Umberto Giordano.

Among the many highlights of this gorgeous program, listen for the "luminous ring" in Beczała's "Recondita armonia" and his "scrupulously clean tone" in "E lucevan le stelle" from Tosca, as well as a "Donna non vidi mai" from Manon Lescaut that "should make audiences swoon" (Gramophone); and enjoy the luminous Radvanovsky in a "genuine tour de force" rendition of "Vissi d'arte" that brought "an exuberant ovation that went on for many minutes" when she played Tosca at the Met (New York Classical Review), as well as in selections from Dvořák's Rusalka, in which Radvanovsky gave "an electrifying performance more completely imagined than any this reviewer has seen" (Stage Door) in Toronto, and whose extraordinary 15-minute finale she performs here with Beczała (who has played the Prince many times to great acclaim)!
