Program notes

The Tsinandali Festival has, for the three years since its inception, attracted world-renowned artists from all over the world to perform in a gorgeous outdoor venue set in the heart of the Kakheti wine-growing region of Georgia. In this stunning recital, festival regulars Renaud Capuçon and Mao Fujita team up with cellist Kian Soltani in his Tsinandali debut for a program of sumptuous trios!

Our three virtuosos begin the festivities with the Mendelssohn Trio in D Minor, one of the composer's most beloved chamber works, often compared by critics to the style of Robert Schumann—who described the work as the "supreme trio" of the era. The dream team then take on Tchaikovsky's Trio in A Minor, written shortly after the death of the composer's great friend, pianist Nikolai Rubinstein, in his memory. This piece is characterized by its sweeping lyricism, a poignant reflection of the friendship between two great musicians and a perfect showcase for the talent and artistry of the three incredible soloists united here.
