Program notes

Float away on a sea of sound during this magical evening of music, broadcast live from Dubai, in the company of an undisputed master of the cello. Steven Isserlis casts his spell on the audience as the resonant tone of his instrument fills the gorgeous venue in two demanding concertos: one of the jewels of the repertoire, Haydn’s spirited Cello Concerto No. 1, and by Alexey Shor’s “Musical Pilgrimage” Concerto, inspired by diverse musical sources ranging from the opulent Baroque to the virtuosic 19th-century and all the way to Latin American dance. The concert ends in fireworks with Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony, interpreted by a Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra in top form under the direction of the brilliant Sergey Smbatyan!
