Program notes

Don’t miss the Tsinandali Festival 2023! Every year since 2019, the greatest performers, conductors, composers, and artists from all over the world have joined forces for 10 days in the magnificent village of Tsinandali, in eastern Georgia, to promote music in this region at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. The 2023 edition features a special celebration of the great Sergei Rachmaninov, marking 150 years since the legendary Romantic composer's birth.

In this remarkable concert, the Pan-Caucasian Youth Orchestra, made up of young artists from the region, join their celebrated music director Gianandrea Noseda and two of today's most in-demand string players for a sterling program of Beethoven, Mozart, and Brahms! The evening begins with the great Augustin Hadelich, who performs the solo role in Beethoven's two Romances for Violin and Orchestra—and then sticks around to team up with virtuoso violist Amihai Grosz in Mozart's ingenious Sinfonia Concertante in E-flat. Finally, Noseda leads the talented ensemble in Brahms's exultant First Symphony, as epic as a Beethoven symphony but with a uniquely Brahmsian air of triumph.
