Program notes

With the generous support of Madame Aline Foriel-Destezet

For the opening concert of the inaugural Moscow's Zaryadye International Festival, Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra are joined by Alexandre Kantorow, who became the first French pianist to have won the prestigious Grand Prix of the International Tchaikovsky Competition this past June. On the program are masterworks of the French and Russian repertoire, including Saint-Saëns's brilliant Concerto for piano and orchestra, nicknamed the "Egyptian," and Berlioz's show-stopping and hair-raising Symphonie fantastique.
