Program notes

Relive every note of the 100% Russian program opener from the 2021 Verbier Festival! The great Valery Gergiev leads the Verbier Festival Orchestra, joined by piano virtuoso Denis Matsuev and trumpeter Timur Martinov in a blockbuster program worthy of the high-altitude festivities.

On the program: Shostakovich's powerful Concerto for Piano, Trumpet, and String Orchestra, which is labeled as the composer's first Piano Concerto but could very well be considered a Double Concerto given the trumpet's prominent role, and Prokofiev's "Classical" Symphony No. 1, written entirely from memory during World War I!
