Véronique Gens — Soprano

I Giardini

Program notes

Live from the 30th anniversary edition of the Verbier Festival, sit back and bask in the sublime soprano voice of Véronique Gens alongside I Giardini, who perform their album Nuits, dedicated to French vocal repertoire. "It’s hard to think of another singer today," wrote The Guardian, "who is more compelling in this repertory, with every word crystal clear and every nuance of the text perfectly inflected."

This captivating program features French-language poetry set to music, traditionally accompanied by a piano, small ensemble, or orchestra. In Nuits, Véronique Gens and I Giardini explore nighttime in all its facets through gorgeous works by Sains-Saëns, Ropartz, Berlioz, Offenbach, and Fauré transcribed for voice with string quartet and piano. The effervescence of moonlit romance brushes up against the fears of our nightmares and the excitement of convivial soirées in a program centered around Ernest Chausson's Chanson perpétuelle.
