Mikhail Pletnev conducts Chopin and Beethoven — With Bruce Liu

Join virtuoso pianist Bruce Liu and the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, under the baton of Mikhail Pletnev, in a fantastic rendition of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E Minor. Premiered by the composer himself, this magnificent work is characterized by an expressive warmth and technical flair. “There is spirit in these melodies, there is fantasy in these passages, and everywhere there is originality”, wrote the editor of the Revue musicale the day after its premiere. Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 in C Major, the second half of the program, also enjoyed immediate critical acclaim, described as displaying “great artistry, innovation, and a wealth of ideas”. A masterful blend of Classical melodies and harmonic innovation, the work highlights Beethoven’s developing style and foreshadows his future brilliance.
