Sir Simon Rattle conducts Beethoven — With Leonidas Kavakos, Klaus Mäkelä, and Lahav Shani

Verbier Festival 2024

Cast

Program notes

You know Klaus Mäkelä and Lahav Shani as two of today's leading conductors — but they are both world-class instrumentalists as well, as this concert at the 2024 Verbier Festival amply demonstrates! They join violin virtuoso Leonidas Kavakos and the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra, under the baton of the esteemed Sir Simon Rattle, in a stellar program of two pathbreaking works by Beethoven. The modern-sounding Triple Concerto in C major, featuring Mäkelä and Shani alongside Kavakos in the solo roles, is followed by Beethoven’s paradigm-breaking "Eroica" Symphony No. 3, a revolution in the symphonic form whose initial dedication to Napoleon was later retracted by the composer.
