The program begins with the fabulous opera singer Elīna Garanča as soloist in a sublime performance of Brahms’s Alto Rhapsody, composed for the wedding of Julie Schumann, the daughter of the brilliant Clara and Robert. Bruckner’s monumental and solemn Symphony No. 9 in D Minor follows, conducted by maestro Christian Thielemann, a true expert in the Austrian composer’s repertoire—a perfect end to an exceptional concert!
