Program notes

Generously supported by Madame Aline Foriel-Destezet

For over a decade, Joshua Bell—the “poet of the violin”—has been a regular guest of honor at the Verbier Festival. As a soloist, chamber musician and conductor, he has performed a marvelously wide range of repertoire, from the beloved violin concertos of Beethoven, Bruch, Saint-Saëns and Dvořák, to chamber music and recitals with acclaimed colleagues like Leonidas Kavakos, Yuja Wang, Pretty Yende, and Anoushka Shankar. In brand-new footage filmed for this year’s Virtual Verbier Festival, as well as in stunning footage from previous editions, you’ll always hear the signature Joshua Bell sound: the limpid phrasing and lyrical tone of his 1713 Stradivarius, played as only he can play it.
