Program notes
The stage of the NCPA in Beijing is set for a very special encounter: Yuja Wang joins forces with Martin Grubinger for a "nuclear fusion" between piano and percussion, according to Yuja. An explosive concert live on medici.tv !
The Beijing-born pianist Yuja Wang returns to her hometown for a highly creative concert at the NCPA where she has just been named Artist-in-Residence. Yuja's association with the NCPA dates back to 2009, when she made her Chinese solo recital debut at the center. With impeccable technique and tremendous musical sensitivity, few artists generate as much electricity as Yuja Wang.
Austrian multi-percussionist Martin Grubinger has been dubbed by critics a "wizard of percussion". He has transformed solo percussion concerts into scintillating performance experiences. His unusually large repertoire ranges from solo works and chamber music, and he has en ever-growing list of works written especially for him by Avner Dorman, Friedrich Cerha or Tan Dun.
We are thrilled to present this uncommon collaboration between Yuja Wang and Martin Grubinger performing a revised version of Bartók's Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion and One Study One Summary by John Psathas.
