The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra salutes Maestro Zubin Mehta's singular legacy and extraordinary achievements in a one-night-only, all-Mozart concert. Two of Mehta's friends and legendary colleagues, Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman, join the conductor and orchestra for the celebration.
On his 80th birthday, Maestro Zubin Mehta announced his October 2019 retirement from the post of Musical Director of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, after 50 years of making music together. With his landmark tenure drawing to a close, Mehta and the IPO mark the announcement with a commemorative concert featuring three works by Mozart and presented by the American Friends of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
The evening opens with the overture to Mozart's beloved opera Le Nozze di Figaro, followed by his Symphony No. 36. In the evening's crowning moment, Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman take the stage for Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante in E-flat Major, K. 364, performing the violin and viola solo parts respectively.
