100-meter dash at the 2024 medici.tv musical Olympics
Featuring Mozart, Donizetti, Verdi, Shostakovich, and Handel
Program notes
As Paris celebrates the Olympic Games in 2024, medici.tv invites you to play along at home in our special musical Oympics! Five events, nine nationalities, 19 composers, and three weeks to decide who will take home the gold… It's up to you to vote for your favorite pieces and composers from July 26 - August 11 and help them advance in the medal standings.
Art is a balance of skill and sensibility, something you hone over the years until it becomes a part of your being. A work of art, on the other hand, can be created in a flash of inspiration — seemingly as quickly as a 100-meter dash, but with results that echo through the generations! Which one of these speedily written masterworks made you feel love at first sight: the Overture from Don Giovanni by Mozart (written in one night), Don Pasquale by Donizetti (written in 11 days), Rigoletto by Verdi (written in 40 days), String Quartet No. 8 by Shostakovich (written in three days), or Messiah by Handel (written in 24 days)?
