Jean-Claude Gallotta — Choreographer

Program notes

Carine Roy's documentary tells the story of the premiere of Jean-Claude Gallotta's most recent choreographic show, L’Homme à la Tête de Chou, which featured Serge Gainsbourg's œuvre as reinterpreted by Alain Bashung.

The project L’Homme à la Tête de Chou was begun by producer Jean-Marc Ghanassia in 2006. The plot centers on a half-man, half-vegetable hero called the man with the cabbagehead, who recounts the tragic story of his doomed love for Marilou, a love that drove him to madness and a life of crime. On an unadorned stage, Jean-Claude Gallotta's mise en scene featured 14 dancers and was set to songs by Gainsbourg, re-recorded by Alain Bashung. Carine Roy follows this premiere from start to finish: from the search for a venue through the rehearsal period up to the premiere at Grenoble's Centre Chorégraphique.
