Program notes
Through the remarkable fate of three contemporary dancers, La vie en danse (Life in Dance) deals with surpassing oneself and how life makes it possible for people to live unusual lives.
In the late 70s, Marion Ballester, a little girl who ran through the fields near her village, joined her mother at a gymnastics class before taking her first dance classes... In 1984, Brahim Bouchelaghem, who lived in Roubaix, discovered the HIP HOP programme broadcast on TF1. In 1990, Allister Madin lived in the Basque Country. He copied all of his sister’s dance moves that she had learnt in dance class and was noticed by the dance teacher, who encouraged his mother to sign him up for classes too.
The aesthetic diversity of this art means there are no limitations to how it can be mixed and any isolation between different forms is sure to be broken down over time. Dance is open, it ventures into the future, bringing its past with it.
