Program notes

In Moro no Brasil, the Finnish director Mika Kaurismäki dives into the overflowing musical diversity of Brazil.

After 12 years living in Brazil, Kaurismäki sets out on a 4000 km journey to discover the amazing diversity of musical styles practiced by Brazilian musicians, singers, and dancers, a diversity that goes far beyond Samba or Bossa Nova. Thiw was Kaurismäki's first real documentary film, and quickly soon became a masterpiece of documentary filmmaking. Kaurismäki succeeds in portraying his subjects as they are, allowing them to speak for themselves through the captivating rhythms and lyrics of their music.
