Immerse yourself in the life of a genius of musical composition, considered one of the greatest pianists of all time: Rachmaninov! In this documentary directed by Peter Rosen, renowned musicians Mikhail Pletnev, Nobuyuki Tsujii, Olga Kern, and many more reveal the fascinating life of this legendary composer.
Admired for the beauty of his interpretations and renowned for his exceptionally large hands, Rachmaninov was one of the few pianists who could play certain chords who were deemed impossible. As proof, he remains one of the few musicians who could play his demanding Piano Concerto No. 3. Despite his immense talent, the Russian composer often doubted the quality of his scores. His life was marked by several bouts of depression, the most severe of which followed the failure of his Symphony No. 1, conducted in Moscow by an apparently inibriated Glazunov. After four years on the sidelines, however, his comeback was crowned with several prestigious awards, including the highly respected Glinka Prize on two occasions. In 1917, the Russian Revolution disrupted his budding success, forcing him into exile to the United States, where his career took on an international dimension. Director Peter Rosen takes us on a journey of discovery through the work of this legendary composer. Deeply linked to his inner questioning, it offers a superb key to understanding the melancholy man behind the visionary figure!
