Program notes

Relive a historic meeting through music on the stage of the 2011 edition of the Jazz à Vienne festival, that of Duke Ellington and Count Basie's bands on the First Time! : The Count meets Duke, recorded on July 6th 1961.

Fifty years later, the Laurent Mignard Duke Orchestra and the Michel Pastre Big Band, both mighty ambassadors for the two composers, relight the flame of their trademark swing in a brilliant and virtuosic performance. With forty musicians on stage, the sublime Théâtre Antique comes alive with the sound of Jazz's brightest hours.
