Program notes

With the help of brilliant band members and guests such as Hugh Coltman and Yael Naim, Eric Legnini immerses the audience of the Jazz à la Villette Festival in his own brand of music, driven by pop, folk, traditional and ultra modern jazz influences. This Belgian pianist, born of Italian parents, built his unique style along the course of an impressive career full of encouters with the greatest names in contemporary jazz. Here, in 2013, he displays his inimitable works alongside Thomas Bramerie on double bass, Franck Agulhon on drums, and a plethora of other talents.

His first successes came in the 90s, after he founded a group with famed saxophonist Stefano Di Battista. The two partners in crime are quickly joined by Aldo Romano. Then, in 2013, he collaborates with Hugh Coltman on his Sing Twice! album, which was hailed by both critics and audiences alike. Eric Legnini brings a breath of fresh air to the contemporary jazz scene, it blows over the stage during the full length of this must-watch concert.
