Program notes

Catch up with golden-voiced jazz singer Madeleine Peyroux in a program that melds forward-thinking innovation and time-honored tradition! Born in the United States, Peyroux got her start singing for passersby in the Parisian street before finding success as a recording artist—thanks notably to her 2004 album Careless Love, from which she performs selections here.

Almost twenty years later, the seasoned pro's talent shines on the hallowed stage of the Bordeaux Opera in a mix of original compositions, jazz standards, and beloved hits by the likes of Bob Dylan, Jacques Brel, Leonard Cohen, and others. Joined by a top-notch band—Jon Herington on guitar, Andy Ezrin on keyboards, Barak Mori on the double bass, and Graham Hawthorne handling percussion—the singer whose sultry voice has been compared to Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Edith Piaf offers up a moment of musical bliss not to be missed.
