In 2013, French soprano Natalie Dessay bowed out of the world of opera and into that of theater. A fitting return to her first passion would not have been possible without crossing paths with one of France's greatest pianists and composers: Michel Legrand. In 2013, this encounter gave rise to the album Entre elle et lui, featuring Legrand's greatest classics interpreted by Dessay's exceptional voice. Though different from her operatic repertoire, the result is magnificent: a deeper voice, full of finesse, that sublimates the lyrics of songs that have long since been elevated to the rank of monuments of French chanson.
A year later, on the occasion of the jazz festival Les Nuits de L'Orangerie, Versailles welcomed the duo for a concert whose beauty was matched only by its magnificent setting. Overlooking the sumptuous French gardens of the Parc de l'Orangerie, Natalie Dessay sings Michel Legrand: from his most intimate texts, written by Eddy Marnay and Claude Nougaro, to his greatest cinematic hits, accompanied on piano—of course—by the composer himself!
