Program notes

A star of the London experimental jazz scene, the Portico Quartet takes to the quarries of the Bon Temps de Junas for the 29th edition of the festival!

Comprising saxophonist Jack Wyllie, drummer Duncan Bellamy, double bassist Milo Fitzpatrick and drummer Kier Vine, the group has built up a solid reputation among jazz fans over the years. Their name refers to an incident that occured during a concert in Italy, where torrential rain forced them to play under a portico. This empirical, instinctive poetry is reflected in their compositions, often born of improvisation and fleeting inspiration. On stage, the musicians seem to be in a trance, while the melancholic saxophone mirrors the hypnotic sound loops of the synthesizers. The Portico Quartet takes us on a journey to the very edge of jazz: a timeless experience that echoes the thousand-year-old beauty of the Junas quarries.
