Composed in 1950, Arutiunian's Trumpet Concerto in A-flat Major almost immediately became a staple of the trumpet repertoire for its soulful melodies and crowd-pleasing showiness, and it has been recorded and performed by nearly every prominent trumpeter since. The esteemed Jim Wilt of the Los Angeles Philharmonic offers up his expertise on the beloved work in this master class from the Colburn School in Los Angeles, accompanied by the spirited piano of Mitsuko Morikawa!
