If there were ever any doubts that the future of classical music was in good hands, this exhilarating recital would put them to rest in a heartbeat: Alexandre Kantorow and Daniel Lozakovich, two of the most astonishingly talented young virtuosos of our day, take the stage for an unforgettable program of Romantic piano-violin duets at the Fondation Louis Vuitton!
The two stars, respectively nicknamed "tsar of the piano" and "prince of the violin," begin the evening with Franck's Violin Sonata, one of the most performed and recorded works in the piano-violin repertoire. Complex and fascinating, beguiling and mysterious, and a possible inspiration for the famed Vinteuil Sonata in Proust's In Search of Lost Time, the Franck Sonata sounds both ahead of its time and—with its unique harmonic vocabulary and singular atmosphere—utterly timeless. The marvelous Kantorow and Lozakovich bring their evening to a poignant end with Schumann, whose Violin Sonata No. 1 in A Minor brims with passion and melancholy.
