Discover Giovanni Battista Pergolesi’s L'Olimpiade, an opera based on a libretto by Pietro Metastasio, set to music by more than sixty composers, including Vivaldi! Its action is particularly complex due to multiple plot twists, but can be summarised as follows: Megacles, Aristea's lover, agrees to fight under the name of his friend Lisidas in the Olympic Games where she is the prize, without his knowledge. Stage director Italo Nunziata highlights the complexity of the characters: the psychological relationships of the four heroes, the intensity of their passion, their suffering, and their internal conflicts.
