The choreography of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker was that of Marius Petipa, who created it with his assistant, Lev Ivanov. In 1934, it was Vassily Vainonen’s turn to create a new choreography for the Kirov ballet, which would become the reference version in Russia.
