Dmitri Tcherniakov

Born in Moscow in 1970. Graduated Russian Theatre Academy, he stages operas and theatre pieces in Russia and abroad. Besides, he is the set and costume designer for mostly all his productions.

He's laureate of numerous prizes of Russian theatre, among them the national prize Golden Mask, which he received several times. As well, he was nominated in Russia The Best Stage Director of the Year for his several operatic productions, 2009 he became the Franco Abbiati Italian music critic prize.

Among his most important productions: The Rake's Progress by Stravinsky, Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow, The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and Maid Fevronia by Rimsky-Korsakov, A life for the Tsar by Glinka, Tristan and Isolde by Wagner Mariinsky Theatre, Sankt Petersburg, Aida by Verdi at the Novosibirsk State Opera, Boris Godunov by Moussorgsky at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Berlin, Khovanshchina by Moussorgsky at the Bavarian State Opera, Munich, The Gambler by Prokofiev at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin and at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Macbeth by Verdi at the Paris National Opera and Wozzeck by Berg at the Bolshoi Theatre Moscow, Dialogs of Carmelites by Poulenc at the Bavarian State opera, Don Giovanni at Festival Aix-en-Provence.

In June 2011 he will make Simone Boccanegra at the English National Opera and 2011/2012 The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and Maid Fevronia at the Nederlandse Opera Amsterdam. Upcoming projects include a.o.: new productions at the Opera Zürich, Teatro alla Scala in Milan and Metropolitan Opera in New York.
