Russian-born pianist Pavel Kolesnikov began studying the piano and the violin at the age of six. Ten years later only, he dropped the violing to focus on one instrument only: the piano.
Kolesnikov studied at Moscow State Conservatory with Sergey Dorensky and then entered the London’s Royal College of Music, where he studied with Norma Fisher. In 2008, he made his recital debut in the Small Hall of the Moscow Conservatory and has since played both as soloist and chamber musician throughout Russia and in Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
In 2005 and 2006 he was invited to the Casalmaggiore International Music Festival in Italy. Afterwards, he participated in the prestigious Verbier Festival Academy (Switzerland) in 2007 and 2009.
A passionate of poetry, Kolesnikov considers Tolstoy the literary incarnation of Beethoven.
Pavel Kolesnikov was awarded the first prize at the 2012 Honens International Piano Competition of Calgary (performance broadcast live on medici.tv).
