Mozart en Viena
In 1781, Mozart leaves Salzburg for Vienna, parting from his employer whom he says he hates “with frenzy”. Seeking independence in this city full of musical activity, his work takes on a new life when he discovers the counterpoint and the dramatic musical effects of two forgotten composers: Bach and Haendel. Considered a scandalous embodiment of debauchery by his contemporaries, Mozart, a free spirit inspired by the new ideas of the Lumières, becomes a member of the Freemasons in 1784 – a decision that will influence his works, such as The Magic Flute which recreates some of their rituals. After ten prolific years, he dies in 1791, but his genius lives on in his masterpieces: (re)discover the seven operas from Mozart’s golden age!
