Sobre el programa...
The Bamberg Symphony take the stage of Vienna's famed Musikverein for a poignant, soul-stirring program under the expert baton of chief conductor Jakub Hrůša—joined by internationally acclaimed soprano Corinne Winters in Strauss's Vier letzte Lieder!
Hrůša and his ensemble begin the evening with the perennially beloved Adagietto from Mahler's epic Fifth Symphony, an isle of tranquility in the stormy symphony that was composed as a love letter to his wife Alma, one of the most beautiful musical tributes ever written. Next, Winters sets her gorgeous voice to Richard Strauss's posthumously published Four Last Songs, each one a miniature masterpiece of texture, tone color, and emotion. And to cap off the program, Hrůša conducts one of the most celebrated symphonic works from his native Czech Republic: the "Asrael" Symphony No. 2 by Josef Suk, intended as an ode to his father-in-law, the composer Antonin Dvořák, but ultimately also a tribute to Suk's late wife Odile—Dvořák's daughter—who died tragically during the work's composition.
