Paris, rue des Petites Écuries, between the four walls that have seen some of the greatest names in jazz pass through—Chet Baker, Stan Getz, Art Blakey, Dizzy Gillespie... a collective of a dozen artists sets up shop for what promises to be a memorable concert. Crowned “International Group of the Year” by the German Jazz Preis in 2023, Black Lives brings together musicians, songwriters and composers from every corners of the globe, from the USA to Africa, and the Caribbean. In a festive atmosphere, compositions follow one another under the spotlights of the New Morning, a true monument of the Paris jazz scene. A joyful mix of jazz, soul, funk, '70s jazz-fusion, African music, rock, blues and gospel gets the room dancing to the rhythm of successive solos by seasoned musicians!
Under the slogan “From generation to generation”, the band aims to convey a message of peace, hope, tolerance and remembrance. Active since the 1960s, its members have included legends such as Miles Davis, D'Angelo, Fela Kuti, Steve Coleman, Marcus Miller and many others! More than a concert, Black Lives offers us a moment of sharing: an authentic demonstration of the best that jazz has to offer.
