Sobre el programa...

Relive this all encompassing performance by Milt Buckner and Jo Jones captured in 1969 in the studio of Radio Télévision Suisse—a rich and lively moment of jazz that portrays the duo’s lively sense of humor.

The American pianist, organist and composer Milt Buckner is one of the most important figures of jazz keyboard. He rose to prominence in the 1940’s in Lionel Hampton’s orchestra and invented his own notorious style using percussive block chords. He later devoted himself to the organ in the 1950’s and appeared all over Europe directing many small ensembles.

American drummer Jo Jones, known as Papa Jo, was one of the pioneers of the great tradition of jazz drumming. He became renowned in the 1930’s for his strong stage presence playing in the Count Basie orchestra. At the end of the 1940’s he performed with JATP (Jazz at the Philharmonic) and toured all over Europe. Throughout his career he recorded more than 1500 albums alongside Lester Young, Ben Webster, Buck Clayton, Art Tatum and Benny Goodman.
