A living legend, a force of nature, and a pianist of seemingly unlimited capabilities, Martha Argerich is one of the biggest names in classical music and one of the artists most intimately associated with the Verbier Festival. From her early years as a child prodigy to her victory at the International Chopin Competition in 1965, her rare and invariably sold-out recitals to her unassailable recordings, she has proven time and again her place in the pantheon of all-time piano greats. In works from any time period by any composer and in any style, there is no obstacle that her almost supernatural technique and innate sensibility cannot master.
Largely eschewing solo performances since the 1980s, Argerich prefers to share the stage with friends like Mischa Maisky, Gidon Kremer, and the Capuçons—and the Verbier Festival has been an ideal venue for these storied collaborations (and the occasional solo performance). In this extraordinary compilation, revisit her utterly dazzling Partita No. 2 by Bach before embarking a tour through the ages with Mozart, Schumann, and Lutosławski. See her also join forces with other renowned pianists like Stephen Kovacevich and Evgeny Kissin in piano four-hands works by Mozart, or with violinist Gábor Takács-Nagy and trumpeter David Guerrier in Shostakovich's splendid Concerto for Piano, Trumpet, and String Orchestra in C Minor—a rarely heard treat played by an unbeatable cast!
