О программе

A great champion of the American symphonic repertoire, renowned conductor Michael Tilson Thomas is invited to Prague to direct the prestigious Czech Philharmonic orchestra for the first time. Considered to be the finest interpreter of Aaron Copland's work, MTT puts the spotlight on this legendary composer for one evening.

The program includes an orchestral interpretation of the famous ballet Appalachian Spring. Composed in 1944 and choreographed by Martha Graham, the work was intended for a reduced musical ensemble: the chamber orchestra. Here, Tilson Thomas conducts a symphonic arrangement that enhances the harmony of this 20th century jewel. Then, in contrast with the impetuosity and exuberance of the American style, the evening continues with a performance of Schubert’s Symphony No. 9. Known as “The Great,” this symphony was criticized at the time of its creation for being too long and technically complex. The Czech Philharmonic delivers an exceptional performance of the work, now considered the composer's most famous symphony, under the expert baton of the New York conductor.
