Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 10 in G Major, Op. 96 was composed by Beethoven 10 years after Sonata No. 9, and it feels like it belongs to a different realm, given the stark differences in spirit and musicality between the two works. Their structure also sets them apart, with Sonata No. 10 being a four-movement sonata, composed of: 1. Allegro moderato, 2. Adagio espressivo, 3. Scherzo. Allegro, 4. Poco Allegretto (in contrast to Sonata No. 9, "Kreutzer Sonata," which has only three movements). Notably, the final movement was written in the style of Pierre Rode, who performed the violin part during the premiere of Sonata for Violin and Piano No. 10 in G Major, Op. 96. In this regard, Beethoven explained, "I did not infuse too much fervor into the last movement due to considerations of punctuality and especially because I had to consider Rode's manner of playing. While we enjoy rapid and resonant passages in our finales, Rode disapproves of them, somewhat restricting me." Consequently, the final movement consists of seven variations followed by a brief coda based on a joyful theme.
