Подобные наблюдения, возможно, побудили композитора Жака Оффенбаха положить его рассказы на музыку! Он сочинил Сказки Гофмана, фантастическую оперу в пяти актах на либретто Жюля Барбье. Посмертная премьера состоялась 10 февраля 1881 года в Опера-Комик в Париже, и со временем партитура заняла почетное место в пантеоне самых часто исполняемых произведений в оперном репертуаре.
