Program notes

An evening to remember at the Gothenburg Opera—the night where a gigantic black and white photograph was brought to life! A dancer dressed head to toe in beige approaches what seems to be a floating box surrounded by a dark chasm of emptiness. He then shows the audience what he is holding: a large orange hammer...

Throughout Hammer, Alexander Ekman explores the idea of natural order—a system that forces humanity to continually strive towards aspects of existence that seem out of reach. Further developing his exploration, Alexander Ekman takes us on a journey from the selflessness of the 1960s to the self-centered mind of the modern age. A dance troupe that brings together performers from all over the world, the Göteborgsoperans Danskompani retell an ever darkening story of egotism and individualism as the spotlight of the modern age brightens.
