Program notes
Piano phenom Alexandra Dovgan, who has won five international competitions, graced the world's most prestigious stages, and impressed the likes of the great Grigory Sokolov all before the age of 18, brings her remarkably assured artistry to formidable works from the Classical, Romantic, and modern eras at the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris! First up, the tumult and pathos of Beethoven's "Tempest" Sonata lead Dovgan from stormy seas to Venetian canals in Chopin's sublime Barcarolle, followed by his freely flowing Fantasy in F minor. César Franck's Prélude, Chorale and Fugue traverses Chopinian mountains and valleys of expression, and Prokofiev's youthful Sonata No. 2 in D minor gives the uncommonly gifted young artist the chance to demonstrate her lambent lyricism and extraordinary virtuosity.
