Jeannette Sorrell and Apollo's Fire perform "Mozart and the Chevalier"

Baroque orchestra par excellence, Apollo's Fire celebrates its 30th anniversary with this extraordinary concert from Cleveland's famed Severance Music Center! The anniversary gala opens with the famous overture from Mozart's Don Giovanni, then intersperses more music by the Salzburg-born titan with that of another composer who is less known today but whose place in music history is essential: Joseph Bologne, the Chevalier de Saint-George, sometimes referred to as the "Black Mozart." Born in Guadeloupe, Saint-George rose through the ranks of French high society thanks to his exceptional musical gifts—but his way was often blocked by prejudice, and he has been relegated to relative obscurity in the history books.
