Program notes
At the 2025 InClassica International Music Festival, celebrated clarinettist Fabrizio Meloni joins forces with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of maestro Tomàs Grau in a program blending Romantic and avant-garde works. First up is Borodin’s symphonic poem In the Steppes of Central Asia, a work originally composed for a series of tableaux vivants celebrating the Silver Jubilee of Tsar Alexander II. The intended production never occurred, but the composition premiered in St. Petersburg under the baton of Rimsky-Korsakov and has enjoyed widespread popularity ever since. Next comes the world premiere of Alexey Shor’s Clarinet Concerto No. 2, a lyrical composition showcasing the virtuosity and vibrant range of the instrument. The concert concludes with Stravinsky’s groundbreaking music for the ballet The Firebird, rooted in Russian folklore and mythology.
InClassica returns to the spectacular Dubai Opera for its fourteenth edition in April 2025, featuring a vibrant array of chamber concerts, recitals, and orchestral evenings! Globally hailed as one of the world’s foremost classical music festivals, InClassica unites astonishing young talent with the biggest music stars of our time in the spirit of international cooperation and cultural celebration. A two-week celebration of artistic excellence, this year’s festival is a special edition, honoring the 55th birthday of acclaimed composer Alexey Shor.
