Program notes
Live from the 75th anniversary season of the Aspen Music Festival and School, preeminent American pianist Jeremy Denk — recipient of both a MacArthur "Genius Grant" and the ultra-prestigious Avery Fisher Prize for classical musicians — performs an unmissable solo recital. Denk is "a pianist you want to hear no matter what he performs" (New York Times), and here in Aspen we have the pleasure of watching him in a "staggering tour de force" performance of the transcendentalism-inspired Concord Sonata, a polytonal, polyrhythmic masterpiece by the boldly experimental Charles Ives.
Watch Jeremy Denk talk about his favorite Aspen memories in our special feature!
