Program notes

For the 21st edition of the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad, Martha Argerich and Renaud Capuçon have the honor of opening the festivities! The extraordinary duo kick things off with Beethoven's devilishly difficult and tumultuous Kreutzer Sonata, before moving on to the idiosyncratically lyrical and haunting Sonata for Violin and Piano by César Franck. These two always impeccable stars work their magic against the picturesque backdrop of the Saanen Church, with its carved-wood roof and walls adorned in medieval scenes and arabesques.
