Program notes

Live from the ville rose ("pink city," so-called for the color of its distinctive stone buildings), the prodigious Thomas Guggeis leads the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse in a spectacular concert alongside mezzo Tanja Ariane Baumgartner and tenor Attilio Glaser!

The evening begins with the celebrated Ma Mère l'Oye (Mother Goose) suite by Ravel, rendered beautifully by the orchestra and their young maestro. Then Baumgartner and Glaser take the stage for six Lieder from Mahler's sublime Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth), a timeless monument of the Romantic repertoire that has bewitched and captivated listeners since its 1911 premiere in Munich.
