Program notes
There aren't many places in the world where we can see a prestigious ensemble like the Quatuor Ébène on the same stage with not one, but two soloists of international renown like violinist Lisa Batiashvili and pianist Lucas Debargue on piano—but the Verbier Festival is one of them! This exceptional Alpine encounter brings to life one of the most unique scores in the chamber music repertoire: the Concerto for Violin, Piano and String Quartet by Ernest Chausson (1855-1899), a one-of-a-kind piece of intense romantism. Also on the program is a newer work by French composer Richard Dubugnon (b. 1968), described as “driven by a playful modern sensibility” by The New York Times.
