Program notes

Among the yearly highlights of the Verbier Festival are the legendary Rencontres inédites (Unprecedented encounters), which unite top-tier artists in chamber music super groups. In this exquisite installment from the festival's 30th anniversary edition, we're treated to Edward Elgar's Piano Quintet in A minor—a late Romantic gem that "runs gigantically in a large mood" and features a sublime Adagio—courtesy of pianist Alexandre Kantorow, Renaud Capuçon and Alexandra Conunova on the violin, violist Lawrence Power, and cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason.
