Generously supported by Madame Aline Foriel-Destezet

Valery Gergiev needs no introduction—he has established himself over the decades as one of the most distinguished personalities in the classical music world, and the Verbier Festival has seen many of his most unforgettable performances. It is unsurprising, then, that for the festival’s 25th anniversary in 2018, they welcomed Maestro Gergiev as the new music director for the prestigious Verbier Festival Orchestra, a position for which he has proven himself eminently well-suited.

An essential figure in all the world’s major concert halls, Gergiev is also the artistic and general director of the Mariinsky Theatre; the principal conductor of the World Orchestra for Peace; and the founder and artistic director of (among others) the Stars of the White Nights Festival and New Horizons Festival in St. Petersburg, the Moscow Easter Festival, the Gergiev Rotterdam Festival, and the Red Sea Festival in Eilat, Israel. In recent years, he has led Verbier musicians in dynamite renditions of masterpieces by Mozart, Strauss, Mendelssohn, Saint-Saëns, Bernstein, Tchaikovsky, Shchedrin, and Rimsky-Korsakov. Tune in to the Verbier Virtual Festival and watch the maestro at work!
