Program notes

Three universally adored Mozart symphonies are on the program for Daniel Barenboim and his West-Eastern Divan Orchestra’s celebration of the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights! In the presence of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, Mozart’s last three symphonies, Nos. 39, 40, and 41 (“Jupiter”) ring out against the stunning backdrop of Miquel Barceló’s dome in the Human Rights Hall of Geneva’s Palace of Nations. The three masterpieces were completed in the summer of 1788 and are considered to be Mozart’s final monumental contribution to the symphonic genre.
