Fencing at the 2024 medici.tv musical Olympics
Featuring Bizet, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Puccini, and Janáček
Program notes
As Paris celebrates the Olympic Games in 2024, medici.tv invites you to play along at home in our special musical Oympics! Five events, nine nationalities, 19 composers, and three weeks to decide who will take home the gold… It's up to you to vote for your favorite pieces and composers from July 26 - August 11 and help them advance in the medal standings.
Those who master the art of fencing must have a keen eye to spot their opponents' weaknesses and go for the target. Every successive confrontation makes adversaries more attuned and better prepared — and goes one step further toward writing their rivalry in the history books. Our five (or rather, ten!) finalists have fought their battles on the greatest opera stages: Don José and Escamillo (Bizet's Carmen), Figaro and Count Almaviva (Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro), the Nutcracker and the Mouse King (Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker), Cavaradossi and Scarpia (Puccini's Tosca), and the vixen and the forester (Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen). Which rivalry is the greatest? Vote for your favorite here!
