Get to know the magnetic conductor and cellist Klaus Mäkelä, one of the most exciting young talents in classical music today, through the lens of legendary filmmaker Bruno Monsaingeon! The director first caught a glimpse of Mäkelä's genius in 2021 during one of his concerts with the Orchestre de Paris at age 25, already capable of filling the hall with the kind of emotion usually only inspired by veterans of the craft. That evening, when the orchestra members talked excitedly about performing under his direction again, Monsaingeon decided to share the story of this podium prodigy with the world—and the rest is history…
From Mäkelä's background and his studies with the great Jorma Panula to his relationship with the classical canon and his meticulous preparation for concerts and recordings alongside the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, and Oslo Philharmonic, nothing is left to chance in this carefully crafted documentary. Across multiple locations and through various encounters, Monsaingeon paints a thorough and engaging portrait of a figure on the brink of greatness, at the beginning of a meteoric career that is already certain to make an indelible mark on the 21st-century classical landscape. The young maestro plays an active role in this film, a charismatic interviewee willing to grant us a priceless look into his thought processes and vision of his craft.
